Football buying guide
Pick equipment that matches where and how often you play: turf, grass or futsal, casual kickabouts or league fixtures.
- Ball size: Size 5 for ages 12+, Size 4 for 8–12 years and Size 3 for younger players.
- Surface matters: hand-stitched or thermo-bonded balls suit grass; harder-wearing balls are better on turf and concrete.
- Shin guards should cover from just below the knee to above the ankle.
- Goalkeepers should choose gloves with a good latex palm and finger protection for regular shot-stopping.
